This July, the heart of Brussels came alive with the vibrant sounds, flavors and spirit of the Festival Afrodisiac — the city’s largest celebration of African culture and solidarity. Families gathered in the iconic Bois de la Cambre to enjoy music, dance and traditional gastronomy while discovering an important public health message about the dangers of drug use.

Amid the colorful Afro-market, the Truth About Drugs mobile exhibit stood out as a beacon of prevention. Led by Julie Delvaux — coordinator for Drug-Free World Belgium — the exhibit offered facts, workshops and interactive tools to help young people make informed choices. Over two days, Julie and her team handed out more than 1,200 educational booklets and inspired many to pledge a drug-free life.

The campaign is part of a global movement inspired by humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard, who warned that “the single most destructive health element present in our current culture is drugs.” His vision continues today through the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, with support from the Church of Scientology and its dedicated members.

Ivan Arjona, President of the European Office of the Church of Scientology for Public Affairs and Human Rights, praised the initiative, highlighting how it empowers families and communities across Europe to tackle drug abuse through education and awareness.

As Europe faces rising drug challenges, events like Afrodisiac prove that combining cultural celebration with vital prevention work is a powerful way to protect the future — one informed choice at a time.
